The Stackadilly Cooperative was founded for three reasons:
- To level playing fields with technology
- To provide meaningful work for our members
- To establish a viable alternative to the modern corporation
Level playing fields
Increasingly, tech giants own cloud capital (servers, software, networks, AI) and use it to extract rents. We help teams fight back with tools and strategies to save money, getting the most out of the digital ecosystems that businesses rely on.
Our first target is AWS. We don't find them more rent-seeking than other cloud providers, but as the biggest, they have the most influence over pricing and tactics.
We also happen to be AWS experts.
Meaningful work
We think fairness is a key component of meaningful work. Our members share 60% of all earnings, while founders and investors share 15%.
A just cause also helps. Saving teams money may not be the sexiest cause, but we view it as a modest social good and a powerful financial bootstrap to our broader goals. We aspire to spawn worker-owned technology cooperatives in high-impact areas such as food, housing, transportation, and social discourse.
A Viable Alternative
This is probably the wrong place for a manifesto. In brief, we believe that capitalism has flaws, that questioning and improving it should be encouraged, and that, despite what we're told, alternative models pose no threat to the economy so long as they compete fairly in the marketplace.
We're committed to publishing our cooperative model and financials so that others may learn from our successes and failures.
Maybe we will write a manifesto.
